General Information

Reading

We love reading at St. Peter's and aim to foster that same love of reading in our children and families. To help your child develop a love of reading, we ask that children are heard read at home four times a week to help build fluency and comprehension, as well as to develop a better understanding of the world and explore new ideas. Children can change their books and select a new one as soon as they finish, so please ensure they have them available every day. Please ensure that your child’s planner is signed once a week to confirm that they have read at home.

Homework

Children receive homework every Friday to be collected the following Thursday. They will receive grammar, spelling, maths and reading homework that links to their learning.

PE

Year 6 have PE lessons on Mondays and Thursdays. Please ensure your child comes into school in their PE kit on these days. For the safety of our children during PE days, we kindly request that earrings are removed before they come to school and that no other jewellery is worn. 

Extra Information

In Year 6, we have high expectations for effort, behaviour and responsibility as the children prepare for their transition to secondary school. Good attendance is vital, as missing lessons can make it difficult for children to keep up with their learning and build the skills they need for the year ahead.

The Year 6 SATs take place in May. In the weeks leading up to them, children may receive additional homework or revision tasks to help them feel confident and prepared. We appreciate your support in encouraging your child to complete this extra revision and in helping them.
