Miss S. Grace Mrs S. Dowd - Learning Practitioner |
We deliver the curriculum through planed, purposeful play that is based upon the interests and learning needs of each unique child.
The Seven Areas of Learning are:
Children are able to access a wide range of learning areas including, among others, sand, water, large construction, and messy play. The outdoor area is seen as an integral part of Reception’s provision, and it has been planned to enable those children who prefer to learn outside for some or most of the time to engage in the same quality of learning as they would indoors.
Our Reception class is passionate about nurturing a lifelong love of reading. We follow the Little Wandle Phonics scheme to build strong early reading skills, and we ask families to read with their child at least four times a week to support their progress. Throughout the day we enjoy regular story times, and children are welcome to bring in a book from home to share during our end-of-day Book Club. We also follow the CUSP Structured Storytime Curriculum, giving children access to a wide range of vocabulary-rich, high-quality texts that spark curiosity and imagination. For more information about supporting your child with phonics, please see the following Parent's Resources section of their website: For parents | Letters and Sounds.
Visit our Reading & Phonics page for more information.
Each Friday, Miss Grace will send home a 'Summary of Learning' explaining what our focuses have been that week. We would love for you to extend your child's learning at home. To encourage the development of language we would love your child to share with us all what they get up to at home, please send us photos on Class Dojo of what they get up to and any home learning that they do.
P.E. takes place on Fridays and children will get changed in school to encourage independence and responsibility; P.E. kits stay in school and are sent home for washing each half term, and earrings must be removed on this day for safety. Reading books are changed on Fridays, so please ensure they are in school. Every child should bring a filled water bottle, one healthy morning snack (yoghurt, cheese or a cereal bar – we are a nut-free school), one piece of fruit for the afternoon, and a waterproof coat with a hood every day.
Please can your children have their hair tied up and earrings removed if necessary and ensure that all items of clothing are named.
We want every child to feel confident, valued and ready to take part in the world around them. Personal development is woven through school life, from the relationship's children build each day to the new experiences that help them discover their interests and strengths.
Through CUSP PSED, pupils learn to understand their feelings, develop positive relationships and make thoughtful choices. Skills Builder gives them a shared language for practising skills such as listening, speaking, teamwork and problem solving. We encourage children to use these skills in lessons, play and wider school life.
Visitors and trips bring learning to life and introduce pupils to different people, places and ideas. We create opportunities to explore interests, take on responsibilities and try something new. Links to careers help children see how their learning and skills can be used beyond school and open their minds to future possibilities.
We aim to give every child a rich range of opportunities and experiences so they leave us with curiosity, confidence and a belief in what they can achieve.
We invite all parents to dive into our Curriculum, a unique educational journey designed to ignite your child's curiosity and passion for learning. Discover how we nurture creativity, critical thinking, and a lifelong love for knowledge, making every day an adventure in education. Your child's dreams start here!
